Off The Beaten Path
Occupying a modest space just next to the behemoth of the Uptown Theatre, Provisions Uptown is a trendy spot that prides itself on its variety of craft liquors, beers, snacks, and gifts. Plus, it's just a hop, skip, and a jump away from FLATS® buildings: The Lawrence House, The Bachelor, and The Firehouse. Owners Erik Archambeault and William Meek along with their right-hand man for cocktail creations, Wally Andersen try to source as much of the liquor from the regions that they're from. They are all transplants to Chicago, from Rhode Island, Texas, and Michigan respectively. They curate "off the beaten path products," Erik says. Their love for quality and authenticity jumps right off of the shelves.
Occupying Legendary Space
Prior to expanding into Uptown, Rogers Park Social and Provisions were serving their community with the same level of service, along with a welcoming bar with live music and other community events. When Shake Rattle and Read announced its closure in 2016, the team in Rogers Park saw an incredible opportunity in Uptown. Erik and the Provisions team recognized the significance of the shuttered used book and record store which was established in 1966.
"Every space has a story to it, especially one that was open for 50 years. We decided that we should pay homage to them," Erik said. Candice, a bartender at Rogers Park Social, was an admirer of Shake Rattle & Read and a frequent patron. Her scratchboard art piece of the exterior of the former store now hangs on the walls of Provisions Uptown.
Wally, the general manager of Rogers Park Social and the Provisions locations, will be creating a signature cocktail for our first ever Local Sips event at The Lawrence House. Local Sips is a cocktail series that will rotate throughout the city and showcase the diverse neighborhoods that FLATS® calls home. At each event, we will invite two bars to craft signature cocktails inspired by the neighborhood they are in. For more information about Local Sips, visit our Eventbrite
