PUBLIC BARBER MISSION

The Public Barber is a neighborhood based barbershop located in Chicago’s Uptown community. We offer traditional barber grooming with a focus on the client’s experience and an aim towards promoting the human connection. Our skilled and gentlemanly barbers will provide precision haircuts, hot lather shaves and an ear to bend in a space that is comfortable and thoughtfully designed

What services do you provide to the public?

We offer traditional Barbering Services, including precision haircuts, hot lather shaves and beard trims. We take an old-school approach to a new school clientele. We understand that trends come and go and we want to stay on top of them, but know that proper fundamentals will always be in style and the classics are just that… Classic.

How does your business get involved in your community?

“Involved” can mean many things. I believe that our shop, and all of our barbers, treat everyone that walks through our doors like family. We genuinely care about our community and show it through the support of local businesses, waves and smiles to those walking by, and scratches behind our K-9 neighbors. Uptown is our hometown and our doors are open to anyone and everyone. All have a voice here, and we are there to listen.

Unique

What makes your business stand out from the others?

Plain and simple, our attention to detail and overall customer experience elevate a routine chore, to an indulgence. We want our guests to look forward to their visit, not to just be mandatory maintenance.

Is there anything you offer that no one else does?

I think all shops have their own voice and their own vibe. The Public Barber is the direct reflection of the barbers we employ and the community we serve. In that sense, we are one of a kind.

How We Found Eachother

What makes a good partnership with your collaborators?

A vision for their activation that shoots for the stars. If you can dream it, there’s a good chance that we can make it happen.

Did you hear about FLATS before collaborating with them?

Indeed! Our friends at Heritage Bikes and Coffee introduced us to the Flats projects and ideas a couple years ago. And we have a number of friends who dwell in your fabulous spaces.

Why did you think FLATS® was a good partnership?

Flats was a great partnership because they foster a creative community and provide us with an outlet to share our photo technology with a wide variety of people at various events around the city.

Past/Present/Future

What made the last collaboration event/organization with FLATS successful?

I think involving the community in the decision-making process is key to the FLATSproject’s success. No one knows better what a neighborhood needs more than it’s residences. These are people that want to keep their dollars local, they want lively businesses lining the streets, and desire reasons for people to make their neighborhood a destination. Uptown has such diversity, and its success will come when that diversity is represented by the businesses that serve them.
